Hollywood actor Will Smith surprised everyone when he made a trip to India and visited Mumbai. The Men in Black star was seen ‘learning the ropes of Bollywood’, as he put it on his Instagram page, from none other than actor Ranveer Singh and film director and producer Karan Johar. But Smith did not stop there, he was even spotted shaking a leg with actors Tiger Shroff and Aditya Seal on the sets of Student of the Year 2.

In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, actor Aditya Seal spoke about meeting with Smith, who he said is a man he has idolised since he was 10. The actor said he was elated when he came to know that Smith would be part of SOTY 2.

“There’s a person in the production house…I was just having a chat with her, maybe 3-4 days ago, we were talking about somebody and I said, ‘He’s acting like he’s Will Smith!’ And she agreed with me and then said, ‘But, he is coming on set na?’ I was shocked and said, ‘Wait, what? What did you say?’ And then, she said that I was not supposed to know and added that he is a part of the song,” the actor said while recalling the conversation.

“Nobody on set knew about this…none of the actors, just the director and one person in the production team knew this. Nobody else was supposed to know. I had tears in my eyes, I was literally crying,” he exclaimed.

Aditya was asked how Smith was on the sets, and he replied, “When Will walked in, he was so chill…there was minimum security when he was around and he was high-fiving people. He met me and hugged me. There were 3-4 instances, where I caught him alone and chatted with him, he was so cool to chat with. I couldn’t believe it! It was my dream come true!”

“He rehearsed for one day for a very big chunk with Bollywood steps, which were desi steps. It’s not hip-hop that we were doing. We were doing proper Bollywood steps where there’s ‘thumkas-whumkas maarna’, and this guy was acing it. In the first two takes, his timing went off and he was like, ‘Oh my God! I got carried away. C’mon! C’mon!’ We had a lot of dancers on set and for him to manage his timing without knowing the wordings and dancing was amazing.

“We did one master shot where he nailed every step on the perfect timing without knowing what he is actually saying. He’s not lip-syncing it but he doesn’t know what beats is supposed to go, and still he’s acing it. We made him do another jig, which was very impromptu, we didn’t even rehearse it with him before. We just asked him if he minded doing this also. He said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ He was so up for it. We made him do something new and he killed it in the very first take. It’s larger than life,” Aditya added.

Aditya also spoke about how Smith was all praises for Bollywood and the work that goes behind the elaborate song sequences.

“After we wrapped the part that we shot with him which is for The Bucket List (Will Smith’s YouTube series), he did an interview with his team while we were all around. He was very excited and said, ‘This is bigger and much more fun than I thought it would be. People in Bollywood actually do know what they are doing. They know how to shoot their songs, make it look big and I’m really impressed with what they are doing here. Because songs and films out here don’t happen out there. To actually cultivate a song in a film and make it look so pretty, I can’t believe, I’ve been a part of this’,” Aditya revealed.

Student of the Year 2, a romantic comedy drama dance film, is being directed by Punit Malhotra, and it is a sequel to the 2012 film Student of the Year. The film also stars Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey in the lead roles, and it is set for release sometime in May next year.
