The emerge of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli or Shikhar Dhawan might have overshadowed the flamboyance of MS Dhoni but the former India skipper still rules the roost when it comes to hitting those huge maximums as far as ODI format is concerned. On Saturday during the first ODI against Australia, the veteran stalwart became India’s most prolific six-hitter in ODIs as he smashed his 216th six in the coloured clothing for Team India.
Before the start of the 1st ODI, both Dhoni and Rohit were tied at 215 sixes but the former India captain overtook the dashing opener to lead the charts of hitting most sixes (in ODIs) for India. The 37-year old Dhoni reached the milestone as he smashed Aussie pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile for a mighty hit over long on in the 38th over of Indian innings.
Dhoni now heads the list of most sixes for India in ODIs that boasts of some well-renowned names like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, and Virender Sehwag. While Dhoni leads the list with 216 sixes, Rohit is a close second with 215. Tendulkar is third on the list is with 195 sixes against his name while Ganguly (189), Yuvraj Singh (153) and Sehwag (131) complete the top six.

Apart from a list full of Indians, Dhoni also overtook Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya after registering the 353rd six of his career. Before his six in the first ODI, Dhoni and Jayasuriya were tied at fourth spot in the list of most sixes in international cricket. Chris Gayle leads that list with over 500 sixes while Shahid Afridi (476) and Brendon McCullum (398) make the top three.
Dhoni is also fourth on the list on most ODI sixes in career, a list that is led by Shahid Afridi.
