1st T20I India vs New Zealand: It may not have been the best of days for India cricket as the eves and the Men in Blue lost against the White Ferns and the Blackcaps. Yet, that did not stop in-form Smriti Mandhana from pulling Yuzvendra Chahal’s leg on Chahal TV. From jokingly saying that Chahal is Smriti’s batting inspiration to speaking about the confusion with her jersey number and how she became the World No 1. Mandhana got the eves got India off to a flyer, but once she was dismissed for a breathtaking 34-ball 58, India collapsed and eventually lost the game by 23 runs.

Here is the video where Smriti was having some tongue and cheek with Yuzvendra Chahal.

“Yes, yes. I was inspired a lot after seeing you bat in the 4th ODI (vs New Zealand in Hamilton). I felt like I have to develop my game. You’re one my inspirations when it comes to batting,” Smriti said when Chahal had asked her if she had learnt anything watching him bat in New Zealand.

Mandhana also spoke about sharing jersey number 18 with India captain Virat Kohli.

“I wanted number 7 on the back of my jersey. My roll number at school was 7. But someone else had already taken 7. Vikas sir, our team manager, then suggested me to take 18 (Virat Kohli’s jersey number). I knew it only a couple of years ago that Virat also has been playing with 18 on the back of his jersey.”

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue were hammered by the Kiwis by 80 runs in the Wellington T20I. It was also India’s biggest loss in terms of runs in a T20I. Dhoni came in late when the asking rate was more than 12 per over, he looked in the mood to go after the bowling, but it was too little too late as he hit a 31-ball 39. Dhoni also went past 1500 runs in T20 internationals in the process.
