1st Test, Australia vs India Adelaide Report: Cheteshwar Pujara (71) and Ajinkya Rahane’s (70) gave India the edge by giving Indians a good total of 323 to bowl at. Then Ashwin and Shami came good with the ball to set up Day 5 beautifully. Virat Kohli’s men will look to win the first Test at Adelaide and take a 1-0 lead going into Perth. It has to be admitted after India failed to pile on a massive first innings score, the bowlers were disciplined and did not give any freebies to the hosts. They got their rewards which means India is closing in on creating history at Adelaide by winning a Test after 16 years, also no Indian side has ever won the first Test of a series in Australia.
Pujara, who scored 123 seems to have made all the difference. That was when all the batsmen failed on a Day 1 pitch that was offering a lot for the Australian seamers. Kohli has to be applauded for being a better captain in this Test than a batsman in this Test.
Shaun Marsh seems to be the only one standing between an Indian win. He has to play one of his most memorable knocks to bail out the hosts, but he will need support from Tim Paine and the tail.
Meanwhile, India lost their last five wickets for 25 runs and that gave the Australians a glimmer of hope. Again a few bad decisions from Australia may have made the difference, like Finch not reviewing his dismissal and Usman Khawaja’s shot selection, but that does not take any credit away for the good and consistent bowling that got India back in a position of strength. The cream of the Australian batting is back in the hut and it is now up to the bowlers to land the finishing punch on Day 5.
