1st Test Australia vs India: Cheteshwar Pujara is surely the man of the moment for India. His knocks of 123 and 71 in the Adelaide Test not only helped India win the match and create history, but the Saurashtrian also bagged the Man of the Match. After the match, Pujara thanked his fans and also congratulated the team for the win. His post read, “It’s been a great first match at the Adelaide Oval! Thank you so much for your wishes. Really delighted with the way we played as team and put up a great fight! On to the next one now!” Also Read - Former England Captain Alastair Cook Gives Thumbs Down For Shortened County Cricket Championship
This is the first time India has won at Adelaide, since 2003, when another India No 3 bagged the Man of the Match, Rahul Dravid. Pujara came into bat in the second over of the first innings, when KL Rahul was dismissed. The ball was fairly new and it was doing a bit, that did not bother Pujara as he kept leaving balls outside the off-stump even as wickets kept falling around him. He slammed his 16th Test ton and the first in Australian soil to help India post 250 in the first innings. At that time, it did not seem like a big total, but the Indian bowlers made it look bigger than it was as they bundled out the hosts for 235 taking a nominal 15-run lead, which proved to have made the difference in the Test as India won by 31 runs.
He also scored a brilliant 71 in the second innings and was the highest scorer of the side as India set Australia 323 to win. The second Test starts on December 14 and the Australians have a lot of thinking to do ahead of that.
