Over the years we have seen cricketers celebrate in a unique way on the field. And 2016 was no different. The celebrations continued throughout the year, and some just won our hearts. As we bid good bye to 2016, we take a look at some of the best celebrations on cricket field this year.
Pakistan’s Push-up celebration
Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq started this celebration after he completed his century at Lord’s cricket ground earlier this year. The idea behind the push-ups was to fulfil the promise Misbah made in the Abbottabad army camp, where Pakistan team participated in a preparatory camp ahead of England series. The Pakistan captain had promised the army that he would do ten push-ups whenever he scores hundred in England.
The celebration was later picked up by the whole team after winning the Lord’s Test. Senior batsman Younis Khan assembled his teammates in front of the pavilion as they performed press-ups followed by a salute. Unfortunately, Pakistan’s on-field push-up celebration faced criticism back home and was later shelved. A lawmaker felt that push-up celebration promotes ‘negative’ image of Pakistan, and thus Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) directed players not to perform it.
Dwayne Bravo Champion Dance
The ‘Champion Dance’ became viral during the ICC World T20 2016 in India, thanks to Dwayne Bravo and West Indies team. During the World T20 in March, Bravo released the ‘Champion Song’ which became an instant hit. Bravo was seen doing the Champion Dance on the field whenever he picked a wicket.

Not only Bravo, Afghanistan’s wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Shahzad did not shy away from performing the ‘Champion Dance’ celebration on the field.
Umar Akmal and Carlos Braithwaite’s Paul Pogba ‘dab’
Umar Akmal and Carlos Braithwaite pulled off a Paul Pogba ‘dab’ during the Pakistan vs West Indies ODI match this year. The celebration was a rip-off of Manchester Uniter player Paul Pogba’s iconic celebration. First Braithwaite did it and then in return Akmal followed it.
