2nd Test Perth Australia vs India Perth: India captain Virat Kohli and team management’s choice of not fielding a spinner in the starting XI at Perth came under a lot of criticism. Ravichandran Ashwin was not picked as he had picked up an injury ahead of the Test. Ravindra Jadeja was picked in the 13-member squad announced by the BCCI ahead of the second Test and the general notion was that he will replace Ashwin. But to everyone’s surprise that did not happen as Kohli opted to field Umesh Yadav looking at the green top at Perth. The decision did not go down well with the fans as they felt Jadeja could have given respite to the pacers in the scorching heat at Perth. Twitter was also shocked as Umesh Yadav got picked over Bhuvneshwar Kumar on a pitch they felt would ideally suit him.

Here is how social media responded to the decision.

Meanwhile, this is only the third occasion when Team India has gone into a Test match without a spinner and it is also the second time this year after the Wanderers Test. At the time of filing the copy, Australia was 120/1 in the second session of Day 1. Khawaja is on five, whereas Harris is on 58*.
