3rd ODI India vs Australia: India captain Virat Kohli has another landmark in his sight. Kohli needs 27 more runs to join greats like MS Dhoni, Mohammed Azharuddin and Sourav Ganguly in elite list. With 27 more runs, Kohli will become the 12th player to breach the 4000-run-mark as captain. He will also be fourth Indian after MS Dhoni (6641), Mohammed Azharuddin (5239) and Sourav Ganguly (5104) to reach the milestone. With the India skipper in ominous form, he will in all likelihood get there at Ranchi when India host Australia for the 3rd ODI. For Australia, it would be important that they get rid of Kohli before he scores a fifty, because as statistics suggest he has converted all of his last six fifties at home into hundreds.
Kohli also has an opportunity to break a long-standing record of the former batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli needs one more century to go past Tendulkar for registering most tons in a winning cause.
The Indian captain bagged the Man of the Match for that ton. He now is second in the list of most Man of the Match awards won by Indians in ODIs. Kohli is on 32, whereas Sourav Ganguly is on 31. Tendulkar is at the top of the tree on this list with 62 awards.
“It felt good (to get to 40 ODI hundreds) but it is just a number. It feels good to win games for India,” Kohli said after the match.
Meanwhile, the Men in Blue will also be looking to seal the series at Ranchi. India has a 2-0 lead in the ongoing five-match ODI series.
