5th ODI: After the heartbreaking loss to Australia, former India cricketer Irfan Pathan’s words of encouragement is just what was needed for the heartbroken Team India. Virat Kohli-led Team India lost 3-2 to Australia in the recently concluded five-match ODI series. Pathan hopes this loss will not affect the morale of the team ahead of the World Cup. He also expects that the middle-order issues will be resolved before the marquee event later in the year. The allrounder also congratulated the triumphant Australian team. “Hopefully this loss won’t effect the confidence of the Indian team and by the time World Cup arrives team would have sorted middle order positions. Well done Australia for winning the series,” his post read.
Earlier, Team India lost the last and the final ODI in Delhi by 35 runs and it was again the middle-order that collapsed in a 273 chase. It was the first bilateral ODI series loss under Virat Kohli’s captaincy on home soil. It was heartbreaking as India won the first two ODIs and looked to be in cruise-control mode, but credit has to be given to Australia who believed in themselves to pull themselves up from behind to stun India.
Usman Khawaja bagged the Man of the Series and the Man of the Match at Delhi for his phenomenal show with the bat. He scored 100 to propel Australia to a defendable 272. Australia will now play Pakistan in Dubai, whereas the Indian players will join their franchises ahead of the upcoming IPL season.
