5th ODI: Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar reckoned that the middle-order is the ‘Achilles Heels’ of the Indian team after Australia beat the Men in Blue 3-2 in the recently concluded ODI series. India lost three matches on the trot after winning the first two games. India was in a good situation in the Delhi decider before they lost four wickets in the space of 41 runs. It was a middle-order collapse again for India. Manjrekar felt disappointed with Vijay Shankar and Rishabh Pant as both the promising cricketers scored 16 runs apiece. Manjrekar’s post read, “Really disappointing with Pant and Shankar today, what a great chance to show their ability. Shankar may have the big shots but he is no Pant, must learn to keep the strike rate up by hitting more along the ground just like his captain does.”

Another tweet by Manjrekar read, “Whoever gets picked in the end, India’s middle order will be its Achilles heel in the WC 2019.”

The cricketer-turned-commentator also heaped praise for the victorious Australian team. “Delighted for Australia! Exceptional series win! Their country must be so proud, this is what they wanted, a winning team that’s also a very likeable team,” read his post.

It was also India’s first bilateral ODI series loss under Virat Kohli’s leadership on home soil. He felt a lot of lessons were learned and that India achieved what they set out to.
