Proteas batsman AB de Villiers and Australian batsman Marcus Stoinis helped lead the side on to a steady total at this stage, stitching a partnership of over 100 runs. AB de Villiers was the leading run-scorer, scoring 82 runs off 44 deliveries in an innings comprising of three boundaries and seven sixes. Stoinis provided quality support at the other end, scoring 46 runs off 34 deliveries after a slow start early on.
