As Indian football team’s AFC Asian cup campaign approaches, the Bundesliga (Germany’s top-flight football league) fraternity has extended their best wishes for Sunil Chhetri and company. The continental tournament is set to kick off on January 6th, where the ‘Blue Tigers’ will take to the field against Thailand in the UAE in their opening fixture.
Some of the biggest names from the Bundesliga starring World Cup winner Mario Gotze led the wishes for team India.
SV Werder Bremen’s veteran striker Claudio Pizarro wished the Indian captain Sunil Chhetri – “Sunil, there is no one in India quite like you. Keep firing and inspiring the nation,” he said in the video which was released by Bunesliga on their official social media handle.

While Borussia Dortmund’s Gotze addressed forward Anirduh Thapa – “Anirudh, you have everything it takes to become the country’s next big superstar. Go on then, make your mark.”
Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper, Yann Sommer encouraged his Indian counterpart Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. “Gurpreet, you are the guardian of the posts. Remember, block everything in sight,” he said.
RB Leipzig’s promising star forward, Timo Werner picked Jeje Lalpekhua – “Jeje, the Mizo Sinper, take aim and shoot.” To conclude the video, it was none other than Bundesliga legend Lothar Matthaus, “We wish the Indian football team the best of luck. Back the blue,” he wished.
India are placed in Group A which also consists of Thailand, Bahrain and hosts UAE. The Stephen Constantine coached team concluded their rehearsals for the coveted tournament with a final friendly fixture against Oman which ended in a goalless draw.
