Delhi vs Punjab, Ranji Trophy: So, Gautam Gambhir is all set to go the Yuvraj Singh way! After the Delhi Daredevils snub for Gambhir, he has decided to go back to Ranji Trophy cricket ahead of the IPL Player auctions slated to be held next month. It seems Gambhir is ready to prove a point like Yuvraj Singh. Recently, Kings XI Punjab franchise did not retain Yuvraj Singh and he did the same as he decided to play Ranji Trophy for Punjab. At least, this will give the two stalwarts of Indian cricket a chance to prove their critics wrong and they are highly capable of doing that. It also makes one thing clear that both the veteran cricketers are in no mood to call it a day.
The presence of the two makes the contest between Punjab and Delhi even more interesting. Delhi will be without their key pacers as Ishant Sharma is on national duty while Navdeep Saini is in New Zealand with India A team. In all probability, Gambhir will open the batting for Delhi.
Gambhir had a dreadful IPL season in 2018, where he was brought by Daredevils from Knight Riders, but because neither Gambhir nor the team was doing well, the cricketer took full responsibility for the poor performances and stepped down as captain, since then he did not feature in a single match for the franchise. On the other hand, Yuvraj Singh had one of his worst seasons, where he managed merely 65 runs from eight games he featured in.
Both Gambhir and Yuvraj might find it hard to get a buyer, given the age, but in the upcoming IPL auction, they are giving themselves an opportunity to present their cases with a few good knocks in the upcoming Ranji matches.
