If Hima Das became the first Indian woman athlete to win a gold medal at the world level, Mohammed Anas Yahiya made a national record in the Czech Republic. He finished his 400 meters event in a record-breaking 45.24. Just after his triumph, the Athletics Federation of India posted a congratulatory tweet for Anas. The tweet read, “Congrats Mohd. ANAS for breaking his own 400m #Indian record in #Czech Rep. Since last 60 years, no runner has managed to reach the final stage of the Games and Yahiya was the first athlete from India to reach the finals and registered a national record. Mohammed Anas becomes 2nd Indian to enter CWG 2018 finals. India’s sprinter MR Poovamma won the women’s 400m in 53.01 seconds. Whereas, Rajiv Arokia came third in the men’s 200m event with a time of 20.77 seconds.

Earlier at the Goldcoast, the India athlete had set the national record when he finished fourth. Then he broke his own record by clocking 45.31 s, the record was 45.32 s. He has then missed the bronze medal by a whisker, as Jamaica’s Javon Francis bagged the bronze medal after he finished third clocking 45.11 seconds.
It seems India is in for exciting times in track and field events.
