Aizawl FC clinch their maiden I-League as they manage to draw their last game against Shillong Lajong FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Sunday. The Mizoram side needed just to draw their final game to win their maiden I-League title.
In the ninth minute of the game, Shillong Lajong’s A Dipanda gave the home side a lead in the match. As Aizawl FC were trailing by a 0-1 margin, they piled up huge pressure on Shillong Lajong defence. However, a plethora of chances were denied by Lajong goalkeeper Vishal Kaith.
Aizawl FC had to wait till 67th minute for the equaliser as William Lalnunfela levelled the scoreline 1-1. At the dying minutes of the game, Aizawl FC survived a scare as Lajong FC’s Dicka’s shot hit the bar. Aizawl FC goalkeeper Gomes stood like a rock in the D-Box.
However, as soon as the referee blew the final whistle, the Red side floated in celebration.

In the first half, Aizawl were desperately looking for a penalty which referee ruled out. This is the second appearance for Aizawl in I-league. With this draw, they became the first team from North-East to win the I-League.
Earlier, Aizawl FC defeated Mohun Bagan 1-0 at home, and as a result of that, they just needed to draw against Lajong FC to win the maiden I-League title.
