Amritsar Train Tragedy: The auspicious occasion of Dusshera turned into an occasion of mourning after a train mowed over people in Joda Phatak area of Choura Bazar. The people were there watching the effigy of Ravana being burnt when the tragic incident happened. In excess of 50 people were declared dead and several were injured in the unfortunate incident. After the horror took place, the state government got into their act trying to do everything possible to control the situation. Cricketer Harbhajan Singh requested people to stop blaming political parties for the tragic incident and try to do whatever is possible to get back normalcy. An eyewitness at Amritsar accident site told ANI, “Congress had organised Dussehra celebrations here without permission. Earlier, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh announced Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the kin of the deceased. He took to Twitter and made this announcement. His post read, “”Rushing to Amritsar to personally supervise relief and rescue in tragic rail accident on Dussehra in Amritsar. My government will give Rs 5 lakh to kin of each deceased and free treatment to injured in government and private hospitals. District authorities have been mobilised on war footing.”
The incident has left the whole country in a state of shock and we hope things get back to normal as soon as possible.
