Her late charges fired England to historic victory against India. Now, her name will be written on Lord’s famous board for taking a fifer.
A late collapse from India, sparked by five wickets haul in 19 balls from Shrubsole, saw England snatch an unlikely victory by nine runs
Giving India an early shock in the form of Mandhana, Shrubsole was trying to give England another breakthrough. But she has to wait for a long. Raut-Kaur stand was shouldering India close to the victory but Kaur, who was looking for big shots, was removed by Alex Hartley for 51 and that dented India.
In the 43rd over, Shrubsole trapped Raut lbw for 86. The wicket proved costly for India. It was also a big wicket for England. This has changed the course of the match as well. Following Raut’s dismissal, India suffered a big collapse as they lost six wickets for 28 runs.
Not a single batswomen other than Veda Krishnamurthy managed to defy England bowlers. From 44.4 overs to 48.4 she has taken four wickets- Veda Krishnamurthy, Deepti Sharma, Jhulan Goswami, Rajeshwari Gayakwad -and run out one. Her bowling late in the innings snatched the match from India.
