New Delhi: It needed an extraordinary piece of fielding to end Ashes rookie James Vince’s stay at the crease. Nathan Lyon, who was wicketless at the time of writing this story, made sure he is in the thick of the action when he ran out Vince.

Vince was batting on 83 and looking set for his maiden Test century when a direct hit from Lyon, who was fielding in the covers, caught him short of the crease. Lyon with a sensational pick-up and throw ended Vince’s impressive knock.

Ahead of the first Test, Lyon was all fired up and it showed in his game on day one of the match. The spinner bowled beautifully throughout his spells, though he was unlucky not to pick Vince’s wicket as wicketkeeper Tim Paine dropped him on 68.

Here’s Lyon’s brilliance that ended Vince’s stay at the crease.

Earlier after England opted to bat, the visitors lost the wicket of experienced Alastair Cook (2) in the third over of the day. Vince then joined Mark Stoneman and the duo bailed their side out of the initial slump. At lunch, England were 59/1.

After rain delayed the start of the second session, Vince and Stoneman carried on from where they left. The duo then added 125 runs for the second wicket.

The partnership was broken moments before the tea break when Pat Cummins cleaned up Stoneman on an individual score of 53.
