Apart from Rashid, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Gulbadin Naib took two-two wickets each and never let Bangladesh go away with the game.
Earlier, it was a calm and composed fifty by Hashmatullah Shahidi followed by late onslaught from Rashid and Gulbadin helped Afghanistan set 256-run target for Bangladesh.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, Afghanistan did not have the best of starts as they lost Ihsanullah Janat in the second over of their innings by debutant Abu Hider. Hider then went on to pick the wicket of Rahmat Shah to leave Afghanistan in a spot with just 28 runs on the board.
Then Mohammad Shahzad (37) and Shahidi (58) shared a good third-wicket partnership before the latter fell prey to Shakib al Hasan. Then Afghanistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it seemed like they would end somewhere around 200. However, Rashid, who is celebrating his 20th birthday today, along with Naib, stitched together a beautiful partnership for the seventh wicket to help Afghanistan post a strong total of 255-7.
Shakib was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers as he scalped four wickets. Debutant Hider also impressed with the ball as he picked up two wickets besides a brilliant catch.
Rashid was adjudged the Man of the Match for his stupendous all-round performance.
Bangladesh will now travel to Dubai where they will take on India while Afghanistan will face Pakistan in the Super Four stage.
