Asia Cup 2018, Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan 3rd ODI Highlights: An inspired performance in all the departments of the game by Afghanistan have knocked five-time champions Sri Lanka out of the ongoing Asia Cup 2018 on Monday. The Afghans registered a thumping 91-run victory that brilliantly reflects the rise of the cricketers from the strife-torn nation and the fall of the once all-conquering islanders. Opting to bat after winning the toss, Afghanistan were all out for 249 in 50 over on a pitch that looked to be on the slower side, making stroke-making difficult.

Rahmat Shah top-scored for the minnows with a composed 72 off 90 balls, while pacer Thisara Perera was the most successful bowler for the Islanders with figures of five for 55. In reply, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 158 in 41.2 overs.

Afghanistan have had an impressive run so far in 2018, beating Zimbabwe and Ireland, apart from winning the qualifiers to book a berth in next year’s ICC World Cup.

They showed tremendous application and a strong desire to fight it out and put up a competitive total on the board. With Sri Lanka in not the best of form and with the skill of the Afghan bowlers, we surely did expect a contest but never expected it to be so one sided in favor of the latest country to get Test status.

Asia Cup 2018, Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan 3rd ODI Live: A dream start to the tournament for the minnows and a shocking defeat for the five-time Asia Cup winners. This will jolt them badly. A 91 run defeat is a thrashing and it will take a lot of effort on their part to overcome this loss and bounce back. Afghanistan’s bowling was second to none. All their bowlers except for Aftab Alam managed to take two wickets each and two run outs of De Silva and Jayasuriya sealed it for them.
