Asia Cup 2018 Super Four: Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik was the only silver lining for the Men in Green in their nine-wicket loss to Rohit Sharma’s team India. Malik scored 78 off 90 to take Pakistan’s total to some respectability after the Indian spinners spun a web. Malik not only obliged fans when he was called ‘jiju, jiju’ but also came up with a smile when an Indian fan reminded him that jersey No 18 is Virat Kohli’s. Malik was stationed in the boundary line when fans wanted to catch his attention and it was good to see the humble cricketer oblige the fans, at least with a smile. India’s regular captain Virat Kohli has been rested by BCCI, owing to the excessive cricket he has played in the recent past.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan won the toss and surprisingly opted to bat first. Indian bowlers came good again dismissing Pakistan for 237, which never looked like an imposing total for the Men in Blue, who are in red-hot form. Rohit and Dhawan made a mockery of the chase as they slammed centuries and put on a partnership of 210 runs.

Interestingly, this is India’s biggest win against traditional rivals Pakistan in terms of the number of wickets lost. Chasing a target of 238, Rohit (111 no off 119 balls) and Dhawan (114 off 100 balls) flayed the Pakistan attack adding 210 runs for the opening stand to seal their second lopsided victory in the tournament in only 39.3 overs.

India will now play Afghanistan in their final Super Four game on September 25. There are chances that India meet Pakistan in the summit clash that will take place on September 27. For that to happen, Pakistan needs to beat Bangladesh in their final Super Four game.
