Asian Games 2018 Day 1, Medals Tally, Results: China Tops Points Table, Bajrang Punia Wins Gold For India
In an eventful opening day of Asian games 2018, China led the medal tally with an impressive 7 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronze, with a staggering total of 16. The Japanese follow with 3 golds, 6 silvers and 4 bronze (13) and Korea on third with 2 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronze. India's tally was two, including Bajrang Punia's gold.
In an eventful opening day of 2018 Asian games, China led the medal tally with an impressive 7 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronze, with a staggering total of 16. The Japanese follow with 3 golds, 6 silvers and 3 bronze (14) and Korea on third with 2 golds, 3 silvers and 4 bronze.
On Monday, Shooter Deepak Kumar handed India it’s third medal at the ongoing 2018 Asian Games after he clinched silver in the Mens 10m Air Rifle event. Deepak finished second with a score of 247.7 while compatriot Ravi Kumar finished fourth scoring 205.2. It was also the 30-year-old’s first medal at the Asiad.
India currently ranks seventh on the medal tally count at the end of the opening day. The 24-year-old wrestler, Bajrang Punia clinched a historic gold after winning three consecutive bouts with technical superiority before taking on Japan’s Takanaki for the gold, after a close encounter Punia emerged on top and made the country proud by winning his first ever Asian games gold.
The Indian pair of Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar made the country proud as they bagged the bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.
The Indian duo scored 429.9 points to hand India their first medal of the prestigious quadrennial event.

The 2018 Asian Games are also known as Jakarta Palembang 2018, is a pan-Asian multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 18 August to 2 September 2018 in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. These are the 18th edition of the quadrennial event.
For the first time, the Asian Games are being co-hosted in two cities – the Indonesian capital of Jakarta (which is hosting the Games for the first time since 1962), and Palembang, the capital of the South Sumatra province. Events will be held in and around the two cities, including venues in Bandung and province of West Java. Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta hosted the opening ceremony of the Games. The closing ceremony will be held at the same stadium.
