Sixteen-year-old Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary on Tuesday came out with a record-breaking performance as he won the third gold medal for India in the ongoing Asian Games 2018 in the 10-m Air Pistol Shooting event. Chaudhary finished with the score of 240.7 in the final event, 0.5 ahead of Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsuda who bagged the silver medal. Earlier, it was a brilliant performance by the 16-year old as he topped the qualification round with a score of 586. With the feat, Chaudhary became the youngest Indian shooter to win gold at the Asian Games. Before this, it was Jaspal Rana who held the Indian record as he won the gold in the 25m centre pistol at the age of 17 at the 1994 Games in Hiroshima.

Meanwhile, Verma won a bronze medal with a final score of 219.3 in the same event. The 29-year-old was also consistent in his showing as he qualified in the sixth position with a score of 580.

This is India’s first shooting gold at this edition of the prestigious quadrennial event and only their eighth shooting gold across all editions of the Asian Games.

India have already won three medals in shooting at the ongoing Asian Games with Apurvi Chandela and Ravi Kumar winning bronze in 10m Air Rifle Team event. Deepak Kumar won silver in 10m Air Rifle individual event and 18-year-old Lakshay clinched the silver medal in Men’s Trap.

India are now at the seventh spot in the medals tally with three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
