Asian Games 2018 Day 5: It was one of the biggest upsets in the history of kabaddi as World Champions and seven-time Asian Games champions India crashed out of the Men’s kabaddi event in the semi-finals after they lost 27-18 to a formidable Iran outfit. one could say, India took the game lightly, but what stood out was India captain Ajay Thakur was left bloody-faced after a tackle and he then went out. It was not in the spirit of the game as the tackle was made and the point was locked but the Iranian defender just not loosen his hold. The referee had to repeatedly blow the whistle to separate the two.

Here is the video:

India got off to a good start, thanks to Monu Goyat but things soon started slipping from their hands as Iran came together and put up a great show in the defence, thanks to Attrachali. At half-time, the score was locked at 9-9. It was the second half that took Iran in front.

Once Thakur left the mat, Indian attack looked weak as Thakur is the ace raider for the team and is someone who uses his long hands effectively in raids, once he was taken out of the game, it became difficult for India and they eventually lost the match and had to settle for a bronze along with Pakistan, who had lost to South Korea in the other semifinal.

It was the first time since 1990 that the Indian kabaddi team could not make it to the finals. Kabaddi is a sport, India boasts on and is also the reigning world champions.
