Australia vs India 1st Test Day 1: India captain Virat Kohli (3) failed as he fell prey to a cover drive which did not come out from the middle of his bat. One has to applaud Usman Khawaja who took a blinder, diving to the left at gully. It is a great start by the home team. Australia right on top after India lose both their openers and then the big wicket of their captain. It was full and wide of off, looking to make Kohli drive. He obliged, went with hard hands and the edge flew to the left of Khawaja. It was past him and it was travelling at a rate of knots, the Australian number three flew to his left and came up with a stunner. Even Kohli looked stunned after Khawaja took the catch. Kohli could easily have left if, it is the first hour of play and there was o need of playing it.
It was a widish delivery and Kohli could not resist himself, but one has to applaud the catch by Khawaja.
Co-incidentally, all the Indian batsmen who have got out on the first morning have been dismissed of knicks. Now with India in trouble, Rahane and Pujara will look to get India’s innings back on track and the duo are highly capable of that.
Earlier in the day, India has won the toss and Virat Kohli had no hesitation in opting to bat first as he felt runs on the board would be good. Marcus Harris is making his debut for Australia.
