Australia vs India 3rd Test Melbourne: India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will undergo a fitness test to prove his fitness ahead of the crucial Boxing Day Test against Australia at Melbourne. Ashwin missed out on the Perth Tes as he had picked up an abdominal strain, but it seems if he proves gets his fitness cleared he will stand a chance to make it to the squad which would be good news from an Indian point of view as he has shown that he can get wickets in seamer-friendly Australian conditions. While it is still unsure, but a report in Mumbai Mirror suggests that he will undergo the fitness test on Sunday to be in contention for getting picked.
There is still no news on Rohit Sharma and in all probability, Hanuma Vihari, who picked up wickets and showed good temperament with the bat will retain his place in the squad for the Melbourne Test. It is an important Test match from the point of view of both the teams as the four-match Test series is locked at 1-1. India won the first Test at Adelaide by 31 runs and then Australia came back strong to clinch the Perth Test by 46 runs.
Also, now that Mayank Agarwal is available, it is highly unlikely that KL Rahul retains his spot after the failure at Perth. Murali Vijay may be given another chance and it seems Hardik Pandya who has just flown into Australia may not get to play at Melbourne. For India, the bowlers have been in emphatic form whereas among the batters only Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane have been among the runs and at Melbourne India would hope the batsmen come good.
The Boxing Day Test starts from December 26 which will soon be followed by the new year Test which will be played at Sydney, starting January 3.
