New Delhi: A shocking incident has come to light during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in Indore. Two international players from the Australian women’s cricket team were allegedly harassed while walking from their hotel, the Radisson Blu, to a nearby cafe. A man on a motorcycle reportedly not only followed them but also inappropriately touched one of the players.
The entire incident occurred around 11 AM on Thursday morning on Khajrana Road. The two players were walking towards “The Neighborhood Cafe” when a man on a motorcycle, wearing a white shirt and black cap, began harassing them. He sped past them on his bike and inappropriately touched one of the players, causing both women to become frightened. They immediately tried to contact their security officer, Danny Simmons.
During the incident, when the two players were feeling distressed, a man in a car came forward to help them. He took the players to a safe place and immediately informed the police. This quick assistance provided relief to the players, and the police swung into action.
As soon as the incident came to light, there was a flurry of activity among the police and security agencies. The Australian team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, filed a complaint at the MIG police station, based on which the police have registered an FIR. CCTV footage from Khajrana Road and the surrounding areas is being reviewed to identify the accused.
This incident raises serious questions about the safety of foreign players. During the ongoing World Cup in the city, this incident is not only shameful but also casts a shadow on India’s hosting capabilities. Police officials have assured that the accused will be arrested soon and strict action will be taken.
