Ayush Mhatre to captain India at U19 World Cup, Vaibhav Suryavanshi named skipper for SA Tour
On Saturday, Ayush Mhatre was chosen to lead India’s 15-player team for the U-19 World Cup, which will take place in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6 next year.
Ayush Mhatre has been named captain of India’s 15-player squad for the U19 World Cup, which will take place in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6 next year. However, Mhatre and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra will miss India’s short tour of South Africa, a three-match ODI series, due to wrist injuries.
In their place, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will lead the team on the South Africa tour, with Aaron George as his deputy. Both Mhatre and Malhotra will go to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for treatment before joining the World Cup team. Suryavanshi and George are also part of the World Cup squad.
The U19 World Cup will feature 16 teams divided into four groups, followed by the Super Six, semi-finals, and the final in Harare. Five-time champions India are in Group B with New Zealand, USA, and Bangladesh. India will start their campaign against the USA on January 15 at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo, then play Bangladesh on January 17 and New Zealand on January 24.
