Babar Azam's run in this Big Bash League has been disappointing. The Sydney Sixers opener struggled again and was dismissed cheaply in the key match against the Melbourne Stars.
Babar Azam’s time in the current Big Bash League has not gone as expected. The Sydney Sixers opener once again failed to make an impact and was out for a small score in the important game against the Melbourne Stars. Although he scored an excellent half-century in the previous match, the Stars quickly ended his stay at the crease this time.
So far, Babar has played four innings in the BBL and has been dismissed early in three of them. This has become a concern for the Sixers, especially since they spent a lot to sign the former Pakistan captain.
Going into the match, the right-handed batter was high on confidence after his strong showing in the previous T20 game. However, he once again struggled and played a slow innings, getting out for just 2 runs from 7 balls. Tom Curran dismissed him in the second over as the pressure increased on the Pakistan star to score faster.
After facing four balls without scoring, he tried to play an attacking shot on the next delivery, which was full and outside the off stump. The ball took an edge and went straight to Glenn Maxwell at first slip. Maxwell reacted quickly and held on to a neat catch. A frustrated Babar walked back to the dressing room, and the Sydney Sixers suffered an early setback with another poor start from their key opener.
After four scoreless balls, the batter tried to free himself by attacking the next delivery, which was full and outside the off stump. The ball took a thin edge and went straight to Maxwell at first slip, who moved quickly to his left and took a clean catch. A dejected Babar walked off the field.
In his first game against the Perth Scorchers, Babar was out for just 2 runs, followed by another poor outing where he scored 9 against the Strikers. He later hit a fast half-century against the Sydney Thunder, but that was followed by yet another low score in the match against the Stars.
