New Delhi: IPL team Punjab Kings has suffered a major setback. The team’s spin bowling coach and former Indian cricketer, Sunil Joshi, has resigned from his position. Joshi, who was part of the coaching staff led by Ricky Ponting, expressed his inability to continue in a letter to the franchise on Sunday.

May join BCCI’s Centre of Excellence

According to sources, Sunil Joshi may now join the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He was serving as the spin bowling coach at Punjab Kings. With the possibility of his appointment to the BCCI in mind, he has decided to leave the IPL.

Franchise wishes Joshi well

A Punjab Kings official confirmed his resignation, saying, “Joshi has informed us of his unavailability for the upcoming season. He is a wonderful person and an excellent coach. The franchise has had a good relationship with him, but we do not want to hinder anyone’s career development.”

Ricky Ponting also expressed his support

It is reported that Sunil Joshi also informed head coach Ricky Ponting of his decision. Ponting respected Joshi’s decision, saying that Joshi has new career opportunities within the BCCI and wished him a bright future. Joshi has previously been associated with the Punjab Kings during Anil Kumble’s coaching tenure (2020–22).
