Not just cricketers, the baddies PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth also welcomed back Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The IAF pilot returned to India to a hero’s welcome after spending two days in Pakistan custody as a prisoner of war. PV Sindhu took to Twitter and her post read, “Welcome back wing commander Abhinandan. The Country salutes you Jai hind.”

“You have shown us what a soldier is really made of. A big salute to the hero of our nation. Welcome back brave heart! #WelcomeHomeAbhinandan,” read Srikanth’s tweet.

“Welcome back our hero … #WingCommandarAbhinandan  #IndianAirfoce,” read Nehwal’s post.

“It is good to be back in my country,” were the first words of Abhinandan as he stepped back on the Indian soil. The Indian Air Force also took to Twitter to announce that their brave officer is back.

“We have Wg Cdr Abhinandan back with us. Indian Air Force is proud of our Airwarrior #Abhinandan. #WelcomeHomeAbhinandan”, read the tweet.

Yesterday, the Indian High Commission in Islamabad had completed the travel documentation of IAF pilot. Reportedly, Pakistani authorities will bring him from Rawalpindi to Lahore and hand him over to the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) under rules of the Geneva Convention.
