Sri Lanka ‘A’ team will look to seal a berth in the ACC Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 semifinal with a win over Bangladesh ‘A’ who are currently on top of the table in Group as the two sides face off at the West End International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Wednesday. The Lankans are currently in 2nd place, ahead of Afghanistan ‘A’ on the basis of their superior net run-rate of +1.341 as compared to -1.182 of the Afghans.
But a loss against the Bangladesh team and a win for Afghanistan in their final Group A match against Hong Kong will enough for the Afghans to pip the Lankans for the last four berth. Sri Lanka had begun their campaign with a three-wicket loss against Afghanistan as they failed to defend a 171-run target.
All-rounder Milan Rathnayake smashed 19-ball 41 late in the innings to lift the Lankans to a competitive total. Leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth was the pick of the bowlers with 3/28 but he has been called up to the Sri Lanka senior side for the T20 tri-series in Pakistan.
In their second game, the Lankans hammered minnows by seven-wickets – chasing down 118-run target inside 14 overs. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have already qualified for the semifinals with wins over Hong Kong and Afghanistan ‘A’.
Bangladesh bundled out Afghanistan for just 78 with Ripun Mondal and Rakibul Hasan claimed 3 wickets each. Then they took only 13.3 overs to achieve their target to march into the semifinals.
