Debutant Mustafizur Rahman scalped four wickets, which included three in one over, to help his side restrict the visitors to 248. The left-arm pacer was well supported by leg-break bowler Jubair Hossain who picked three wickets. Bangladesh bowlers were on target and kept South African batsman in check. Mohammad Shahid bowled beautifully upfront, but was unlucky not to pick a wicket. He bowled 17 overs, out of which nine were maidens.

For South Africa the top-order got starts but failed to play a long innings. However it was middle-order batsman Temba Bavuma who held the innings together towards the end and scored a valuable half-century.
