Bangladesh vs South Africa rain-marred 2nd Test ends in draw

The second Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa has ended in a draw after rain washed away four days of play at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka. With this the two-match Test series ended in a winless tie after the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury in Chittagong too ended in a rain-marred draw.

With this draw, Bangladesh continue their unbeaten run in Tests to four matches. It had started off with a well-fought draw against Pakistan in the second Test and followed by three rain-marred encounters (one against India and two against South Africa). This also goes along with three consecutive One-Day International series wins – against Pakistan (3-0), India (2-1) and South Africa (2-1) to cap off a wonderful monsoon season of cricket at home for the Asian side.

In this match, Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and elected to bat. They were reduced to 246 for eight on Day One, despite a half-century by skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. Dale Steyn and JP Duminy bagged three wickets each. In the process, Steyn went past the 400-wicket mark in test cricket. He was the fastest to reach the landmark (in terms of balls) and joint second fastest in terms of matches. He is the second South African to bag 400 wickets in Tests after Shaun Pollock.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 246 for 8 (Imrul Kayes 30, Mominul Haque 40, Mahmudullah 35, Mushfiqur Rahim 65, Shakib Al Hasan 35; JP Duminy 3 for 27, Shakib Al Hasan 3 for 30) vs South Africa.
