Both the sides are in desperate need of a win in order to keep their hopes alive in the ongoing tournament.

Cape Cobras were outplayed in their opening encounter in CLT20 2014 against Northern knights where Kane Williamson struck a century and Tim Southee and Trent Boult came out to trouble their batsmen with the ball before rain interference. They put up a much better performance against the Hobart hurricanes, but lost to the Mitchell Marsh-magic in the last ball thriller. In Mohali, they would hope that their main batsmen Richard Levi, Hashim Amla, Justin Ontong, Dane Vilas and Justin Kemp come good.

Barbados Tridents on the other hand, like other Caribbean teams in the tournament, came out with a surprising strategy in their first match with Dilshan Munaweera and William Perkins going after the bowling. However, the middle-order failed miserably.
