After more than two decades, the people of Lucknow will finally get a chance to see international cricket live when India and West Indies lock horns against each other in a T20I in November. Lucknow’s Ekana International Cricket Stadium, which has a capacity of 50,000, will host the second T20I on November 6 of the three-match series during the Caribbean outfit’s full tour from October. The BCCI on Tuesday, while announcing the fixtures for the West Indies tour to India between October 4 and November 11, confirmed Lucknow as the venue for the second T20I to be held on November 6. Also Read - India Will Host The Best Ever ICC T20 World Cup: Sourav Ganguly
The Ekana Stadium has so far hosted only domestic games. It was earmarked to host an ODI against New Zealand in 2017. However, due to pending infrastructure work, the game had to be moved to Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. The last time an international match was held in Lucknow was in 1994 when India defeated Sri Lanka in a Test match at KD Singh Babu Stadium.
During the tour which extends for more than a month, West Indies will play two Tests, five ODIs and 3 T20Is against India.
Rajkot and Hyderabad will host the two-Test series whereas the five ODIs will be played in Guwahati, Indore, Pune, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram. The three T20Is will be played in Kolkata, Lucknow and Chennai.
