Not only did debutant Ben Foakes come good with the bat but he also showed why he is highly rated in England as a wicketkeeper. The debutant scored 61 to power England to a four-wicket win over Ireland. The match got tricky, but Foakes held his nerves to takes England over the line in the rain-curtailed match. Foakes also found himself in the middle of a controversy over a stumping. The incident happened in the 25th over when Andy Balbirnie went for a big sweep only to miss the ball. Foakes gathered the ball down the leg side and then he waited as Balbirnie’s back leg was inside the crease after about five to eight second when he raised it for a fraction of a second, Foakes dislodged the bails. The umpires went upstairs and eventually, the batsman was adjudicated out.
The pause has caused huge controversy on social space:
This is a big win for England ahead of the upcoming World Cup and also a good opportunity for Ireland to get exposure against a quality side.
