Eion Morgan slammed a last ball six to win a jaw-dropping match for Sydney Thunder at the Sydney Showground Stadium today. In the last ball of the match, Melbourne Stars’ Ben Hilfenhaus pitched a fuller length delivery which the England ODI captain Morgan hit straight over the bowler’s head for a six to clinch the match by six wickets for the Thunders.

Morgan scored 71 off 50 balls coming at number four. When Morgan was dancing in joy after hitting the six, the non-striker end batsman Pat Cummins rushed to him and gave him a tight hug in joy. He also patted constantly on Morgan’s shoulder for the later’s match-winning innings.

This was a home match for the Thunder. Earlier in the match batting first Stars post a 166 runs modest total on the board. Kevin Pietersen scored 60 for the Stars. In reply Thunder lost four wickets for 84 runs in the 13th over of the match. Opener Kurtis Patterson and Aiden Billizard built a 38 runs partnership. The first wicket partnership was broken by Scott Boland. Things have changed when Morgan came on the pitch. He started playing Stars’ bowlers around the park. Morgan played five fours and three sixes, which included the last ball six.

The match produced so much excitement that the fans were at the edge of their seats. This was Sydney Thunder’s first victory of the tournament as they are currently positioned at the bottom of the point table.  So after the maiden victory of the season entire team was happy. The champion of 2015/2016 season has lost four matches out of five. Now, we have to see whether the victory against Melbourne Stars would help them to revive their dull campaign in this ongoing season.
