England all-rounder Ben Stokes, who landed in a legal soup for his alleged involvement in a scuffle outside a Bristol City nightclub on September 25, had mocked a gay couple’s “camp behaviour” before losing his self-control and knocking two other men unconscious in a street fight last September, a court heard on Monday. The 27-year-old all-rounder acted in “revenge, retaliation or punishment” and was involved in a “sustained episode of significant violence”, the court heard. Stokes, Moeen Ali and Alex Hales were all involved in threatening and/or using unlawful violence towards each other, it is alleged. The incident had taken place on September 25 last year outside Mbargo nightclub in the Clifton Triangle area of Bristol, where England had earlier played a one-day international against West Indies. It is alleged that a 27-year-old man suffered a fractured eye socket in the incident, during which Hales was also present.
During the hearing, Stokes, who walked into court wearing a smart blue suit and red tie, also revealed his net worth. It is believed that the trial will last for 5-7 days.
Meanwhile, he will be missing the second Test against India at Lords which would be a massive setback for England because he was the one who was among wickets on Day 4 and polished off the tail, apart from getting a well-set Virat Kohli for 51.
