Calcutta Football League 2018: Mohan Bagan won the ongoing Premier Division A league after they defeated Calcutta Customs, but what followed next was uncalled for. Mohan Bagan football Club chief Swapan Sadhan Bose made a comment which shocked the public. He made a sexist son-daughter analogy to describe the feeling in the camp after the win. The remark brought Bose in the line of fire as he was criticised.
The original comment which came in Bengali, was: “Shath bocchordhore meye hochhilo. Hotthath ekta chhele hoyeche. Ki rokomlaage bhai tomar hole? Sherom lagche.” Here’s the video of the same:
Once this comment was picked up and bashed on Bengali channels, BJP leader Babul Supriyo tweeted Bose’s letter with a message that not putting the club president’s love for the team far above all controversies will be unfair. Here’s the tweet in Bengali along with the letter:
“I was carried away with emotion after the win which came after eight years and made the comments. I did not want to say those. During half-time, I made a statement out of emotion and excitement, which in hindsight I feel I should not have made (sic),” he wrote in the letter.
“In my own house, I have my daughter-in-laws and grand daughter and I know the importance of a woman’s role in any family and how integral and precious they are. So I am withdrawing my statement and hurting anybody’s feelings was the last thing on my mind,” he added
