Cheteshwar Pujara slammed an uncharacteristic 61-ball 10 and became the first Saurashtrian cricketer to do so in a T20 game. Pujara achieved this feat during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy game against Railways. Considering in the 2018 Johannesburg Test, Pujara took 79 minutes to get off the mark, it is surprising how he has changed his game and what confidence can do to a player. India’s Test match specialist hit 14 fours and one six during his stay as he helped Saurashtra post 188 for three in their allotted 20 overs. Pujara brought up his fifty in merely 29 balls.
Pujara was the Man of the Series not so long ago when India toured Australia for the Test series. Pujara slammed three centuries in the series and was the biggest reason for India’s success Down Under. This was Pujara’s 59th T20 match and it was his sixth half-century and his maiden ton. It was surprising when Pujara was not picked by any team during the Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019) auctions. In the past, Pujara has been part of IPL franchises Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Pujara has 1196 runs in 59 T20s with an average of 26. The strike rate of 105 though is a concern.
Meanwhile, Pujara is not even in the fray for a World Cup spot. The Men in Blue will soon host Australia at home for a limited overs series. India will play two T20I matches followed by a five-match ODI series.
