The Committee of Administrators (CoA) does not wants former Indian batsman VVS Laxman to be present during the interview of ex-Australian all-rounder Tom Moody. This is because of the fact that both Moody and Laxman are associated with IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Moody is one of the many applicants who will give an interview for the post of the Indian national cricket coach. The interview will be conducted by a three-member panel which includes Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
A BCCI official was quoted to be saying by Indian Express, “Vinod Rai (COA chairman) has informed BCCI officials that Laxman will have to stay away when Moody appears for his interview. Laxman and Moody know each other very well and to avoid another conflict of interest debate, the COA felt that it would be better if Laxman recluses himself.”
There is a raging controversy in Indian cricket currently with an alleged rift between coach Anil Kumble and the Indian cricket team.
Kumble’s contract as a coach expires following the conclusion of the Champions Trophy. His contract has not got an automatic extension and he has applied for the post again.
Moody on the other hand is tipped by experts to be the favourite for the job along with Virender Sehwag.
