New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has openly reacted to his exclusion from the ODI series against Australia. Jadeja said he was not surprised by the decision, as the team management had already explained the reasoning.
At the press conference after the second day of the Delhi Test, Jadeja said, “Selection is not in my hands, but I definitely want to play. The management, coach, and captain have their own opinions, and they already explained the reasoning to me, so it was no surprise.”
Jadeja said he was happy that the team management clearly explained to him why he would not be part of the series. He said, “It’s good that they spoke to me. I will do what I always do – whenever I get the opportunity, I will try my best to help India win.”
Jadeja, who has retired from T20 cricket, is now eyeing the 2027 ODI World Cup. He said, “Every player dreams of winning the World Cup. We fell a little short last time, but we’ll make up for it next time.”
India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar also clarified that Jadeja is still in the selectors’ plans. He said, “It wasn’t possible to take two left-arm spinners in Australia at this time. But Jadeja is part of our plans. It’s just a matter of team balance.”
Ravindra Jadeja has played 204 ODIs so far, taking 231 wickets and scoring 2806 runs. In the recently concluded Champions Trophy, he took five wickets in five matches and maintained an excellent economy rate (4.35).
India and Australia will play three ODIs on October 19, 23, and 25, respectively. The two teams will then play a five-match T20I series from October 29 to November 8.
