Barbados Tridents made a perfect start to their 2018 campaign of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) with a convincing 30-run victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Providence Stadium on Sunday. Shai Hope’s brilliant 88, and 40s from Steven Smith and Nicholas Pooran set them up for a commanding 185. Raymond Reifer followed it up with a fifer to hand Warriors their first defeat of the season as Warriors finished at 155-8 in their stipulated quota of 20 overs.
However, the highlight of the match was a one-handed blinder taken by West Indies all-rounder Rayad Emrit to dismiss New Zealand’s Martin Guptill for duck.
The incident happened in the very first over of the match when Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir bowled a length delivery to opener Guptill in the very first over of Tridents’ inning. The New Zealander tried to hit the ball over mid-off. However, Emrit, standing right at the edge of the circle, jumped to his full potential and took a stunner to dismiss Guptill.
