India vs West Indies 1st Test Day 1 Rajkot: All eyes were on Prithvi Shaw on his debut and the 18-year-old from Mumbai did not disappoint as he brought up a 99-ball 100. India lost KL Rahul in the first over of the match for a duck but that never seemed to bother young Prithvi on debut. He played the ball at its merit becoming the youngest Indian debutant to score a fifty-plus score. He never missed out on a scoring opportunity. Even without anyone taking notice he reached 50. He mixed aggression with caution beautifully en route to his maiden 100.

Earlier in the day, Shaw looked high-on-confidence as he stroked a brisk 50 off 56 balls to become the youngest Indian cricketer to score fifty-plus runs on debut. He went past Abbas Ali Baig and Gundappa Vishwanath. Abbas Ali Baig did it way back in 1959, which means he has broken a 59-year-old record. He also becomes the fifth youngest opener to score a 50 on Test debut. Hanif Mohammad of Pakistan is the youngest, he did it when he was 17y 302d against India in 1952.
