The on-going rape allegations on Cristiano Ronaldo has not affected his professional life, the striker is in top form and firing all cylinders in the Italian league, where he is plying trade with Juventus. However, in an interview with France Football magazine, Ronaldo revealed that the allegations has taken a toll on his personal life.
The French weekly quoted him saying, “Of course this story is interfering in my life, “I have a partner, four children, an ageing mother, sisters, a brother, a family I’m very close to. Not to mention my reputation, which is of somebody who is exemplary.”
The 33-year-old was accused of rape by an American woman, Kathryn Mayorga alleged that he raped her, threatened her and bought her silence in 2009, these claims were published by German magazine Der Spiegel and it was denied and called “blatantly illegal” by Ronaldo.
In her accusations, it was also stated that the footballer took advantage of Moaorga’s emotional state, forcing her to get into nondisclosure agreement in 2009, in return compensating her with $375,000 to remain silent.
“I explained everything to my partner,” Ronaldo said. “My son, Cristiano Jr., is too young to understand it. I feel the worst for my mother and sisters. They’re stunned by it all but, at the same time, very angry. This is the first time that I’ve seen them in this state.”
“Imagine what it can represent when someone says you’re a rapist, or that you have this or that,” Ronaldo added. “I know who I am and what I’ve done. The truth will come out in the light of day.
“And those people who criticize me or who expose my life today, who are turning it into a circus, those people will see.”
The Juventus striker also spoke about the Ballon d’Or (an award for the world’s best footballer) – which he has won for a joint-record five times alongside rival Lionel Messi. This year, the coveted award will be handed by France football on December 3rd in Paris. Asked on if he deserves the award, Ronaldo said, “Yes, I think I deserve the Ballon d’Or this year,” Ronaldo said. “I dream of winning the Ballon d’Or for the sixth time and in that case I would surpass Lionel Messi.
Earlier in July this year, Cristiano Ronaldo officially signed for Italian Club Juventus from Real Madrid for a fee of 100 million Euros on a 4-year deal. He spent 9 years with the current European champions, winning several accolades to his name and for the club.
