It seemed the Mohali crowd really missed former India captain MS Dhoni! Every time young Rishabh Pant made a mistake, the fans started chanting ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ to troll Pant. It was a massive opportunity for the youngster to impress the selectors but that was not to be as he was everything but sharp with the gloves on. Pant gave away easy runs to the visitors for which India paid in the end as they lost the match by four wickets allowing Australia to lock the ongoing five-match ODI series at 2-2. Pant was looked at as the reserve keeper for Dhoni in case the big man picks up an injury during the World Cup.

Earlier, Pant contributed well with the bat where he scored a quickfire 24-ball 36. Fans felt Pant is just not ready to replace Dhoni.

Earlier in the day, it was a record 193-run-stand between Rohit and Shikhar that propelled India to a mammoth 358/9 in the stipulated 50 overs. Dhawan slammed his 16th ODI ton, whereas Rohit missed it by five runs. For Australia, it was Cummins who picked up five wickets and was the pick of their bowlers.

Ashton Turner was the hero for the visitors, playing merely his second ODI, he smashed a breathtaking 43-ball 84* to take his side over the line with 13 balls to spare.

The fifth and final ODI is slated to be played on March 13 at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla.
