New Delhi: In 2016, Nitesh Tiwari’s film ‘Dangal’ was released. Aamir Khan played an important role in the film, whose story was based on the life of Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat. The movie earned a lot of money at the box office. It had a gross collection of 2070.3 crores worldwide. But now in an interview, Babita Phogat has said that she was paid less.
The film ‘Dangal’ was made on a budget of 90 crores. And 70 crores were spent on its production. At the same time, 20 crores were spent on its promotion and marketing. This movie had a net collection of 387.38 crores in India alone and was a super-duper hit. Earlier media reports claimed that 80 lakh rupees were given to the Phogat family for the rights of this movie.
How much did Babita Phogat get for ‘Dangal’?
But now in a conversation with ‘News 24’, Babita Phogat has said that her family was given only Rs 1 crore, which was less than one per cent of the film’s total box office collection. The money they got was half of 10 per cent i.e. 0.05 per cent. This deal was decided much before Aamir Khan came as a producer when the director’s team was doing scripting.
“Out of Rs 2,000 crore made from Dangal, the Phogat family received only Rs 1 crore?”, Babita was asked during an interview with News 24. The wrestler-turned-politician confirmed the figure and responded with a firm “Yes”, said Babita Phogat
“Nahi, papa ne ek cheez kahi thi ki logo ka pyaar aur sammaan chahiye.,” (No, father had said one thing, we want people’s love and respect.) she added.
Babita Phogat’s father said- ‘Dangal did not make her famous’:
Babita said that her father Mahavir Singh Phogat said that she wanted people’s love and respect. He told her not to pay attention to other things. Her father said that his daughters became famous in every household because of the people. Not because of the film. Not only this, Babita said that when Aamir Khan became a part of the movie, his team suggested changing the names of the characters. But her father Mahavir did not agree.
Aamir Khan’s fees for ‘Dangal’:
Babita also said that her father had put forward an offer to Aamir Khan’s team to open a wrestling academy in Haryana. But there was no yes or no response from their side. As a result, the academy could not be built to date. According to reports, Aamir Khan took a base salary of Rs 35 crore. Apart from this, he also earned a lot of money from profit sharing, which amounted to Rs 375 crore.
