Chennai: In what could be called as a big setback for the defending champions Chennai Super Kings, pace bowler Deepak Chahar has been ruled out for the game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on Sunday. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain of CSK, confirmed that Chahar has picked up a niggle and that is the reason why he was not available for selection. Chahar, with the new ball, has been consistent and been an asset for the CSK side.
He also has a lot of experience of playing at the Chepauk and that would have helped. CSK is bound to miss their new ball bowler and that may hurt them in the powerplay. In four matches this season, he had picked up four wickets with his best being a two for 28.
“It looks humid, expecting dew tonight, so we will bowl first. Hasn’t dented our confidence, we have lost by small margins. Everyone is confident in our group, but we have had forced changes. Definitely looking forward to getting a win in this game. They are playing a good brand of cricket, we want to keep things simple and want to focus on ourselves. Pathirana is not available, Mustafizur is back,” Ruturaj also said.
Meanwhile, CSK have won the toss and opted to bowl first.
