Deepika Kumari and Laishram Bombayla Devi gave spectacular performance on Day 5 of Rio Olympics 2016 when they advanced into the 1/8 Eliminations round of the women’s individual archery competition. Deepika Kumari beat the higher ranked Kristine Esebua of Georgia, while Laishram Bombayla Devi emerged winner against Taipei’s Shih-Chia Lin. Deepika Kumari won the first series 27-26 versus Esebua shooting 8, 10 and 9. The second series was tied, while Deepika won the third series. Esebua made a comeback and won the fourth set to reduce Deepika’s lead to 5-3, but Deepika moved ahead 6-4 after the fifth and claim the match. Bombayla beat Taipei’s Shih-Chia Lin 108-101 via 27-24, 27-24, 26-27, 28-26 at the Sambodromo. Earlier, she defeated Austria’s Laurence Baldauff 105-98 in the 1/32 eliminations in the women’s individual round match.
